3 Places to Cross Country Ski in Park City

Cross country skiing has become more and more popular every year. It’s perfect for those who want to enjoy the outdoors and in the snow but don’t want to alpine ski (wait, what?). Yes, some people don’t like to alpine ski or they want to mix it up a bit and get a more aerobic, and in a lot of cases, an anaerobic, workout. Park City cross country trails are groomed for both Classic and Skate skiing, with all levels and abilities.

We are blessed in Park City to have plentiful groomed cross country ski trails for a fee and also for absolutely free. Our air is crisp and clean, and the views magnificent. Cross country skiing in Park City is a fun and great way to get an incredible workout or just take it easy outside with friends.

Want to bring your well behaved dog and ski for free? Try Round Valley. Round Valley is a mecca for skate and classic skiers as wells as snow biking and snow shoeing enthusiasts. It’s free, so plan to share the trails with others. Come with a smile and great attitude. Even if you don’t bring Fido, expect others to do so. Dogs may be off leash on the trails, past the signs saying so. No dogs off leash in the parking lot. And remember, “there is no poop fairy” so be sure to bring a bag to clean up after your dog.  Bags are provided but sometimes run out. The best place to park is at the National Abilities Center/Ice rink parking lot. Enjoy the spectacular views of the Wasatch Back from this treasured location.

More fee free cross country skiing is provided by Basin Rec. Basin Rec grooms another 25km of trails that run from Kimball Junction all the way into Park City, along Swaner Nature Preserve and into the Willow Creek neighborhood and beyond.  Dogs are allowed but must be on leash and well behaved. No poop fairy on these trails either so remember your doggie waste bag. A map is provided on the link below.  Please park at Willow Creek Park, Matt Knoop Memorial Park, the Basin Recreation Fieldhouse, or the trailhead across from The Farm to access these trails.

Want to stay away from canines and have a more expertly groomed experience? White Pine Nordic Center does a fantastic job grooming 25km of track which runs from across the street of Park City Mountain all the way to St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Talk about a work out! You will be thoroughly sweaty and exhausted if you complete the full loop. If that is not your thing, there are plenty of shorter loop options. Park at Hotel Park City. White Pine Nordic Center is located inside the golf pro shop. Cross country ski rentals are available as well.
